Designing Heating and Cooling Systems in Large Buildings

Have you ever wondered what goes into a heating or air conditioning system for a large office building or another large building like a mall or a school? My name is Evelyn, and I am an HVAC architect. I design heating and air conditioning systems for large, corporate buildings. Making sure that a large building with many rooms or offices is efficiently heated and cooled is a very large job and is much more complicated than simply heating or cooling a home. This blog will educate the reader on how heating and cooling jobs this large are designed and completed.

AC Units For Your Apartment Complex

Nicole Jacobs

If you own an apartment complex and you are looking for the right choice of air conditioning units to have installed throughout the complex, then you will find this article to be helpful. It will give you some information you can use to help you make your decision regarding the type of units or systems you want to go with.

There are many factors to consider

When choosing the right type of AC for your apartment complex, you want to consider the number of units there are in the entire complex. For smaller complexes, you'll need less units and less power. For larger ones, you'll be looking at more units and more power to keep them all cool.

You are also going to need to consider the square footage of the apartments. If the apartments are very large ones, then it is going to take more power to keep them cool and this means more powerful units that can keep up with the demand.

Another thing you are going to need to know is whether your apartment complex has already been retrofitted with ducts. If it has, then you may be more open to having central air installed. However, if it hasn't, then you should be prepared for there to be quite an expense and a lot of work ahead of you if you opt for central air. On the other hand, central air does come with many benefits.

Consider the current system if your apartment complex already has one in place. You may find that it is much easier for you to replace the system already in place than it would be for you to switch to a completely different type of air conditioning for the complex.

There are many systems to choose from

Central air - If the ductwork is already in place, then you might want to go with central air for the complex. Central air will be energy efficient and it will cool the units evenly.

Packaged terminal air conditioning - If you have a complex that consists of very small units, such as studio apartments or small one-bedrooms, then you could choose to go with packaged terminal air conditioning. These units are ones that are installed through the wall and they are controlled with controls on the unit. They can come with remote controls as well.

Mini-split systems - This type of system is a good option when wanting something similar to central air in the units when you decide not to go with central. Mini-split systems are easier to install and they can cool small and large apartments.
