Designing Heating and Cooling Systems in Large Buildings

Have you ever wondered what goes into a heating or air conditioning system for a large office building or another large building like a mall or a school? My name is Evelyn, and I am an HVAC architect. I design heating and air conditioning systems for large, corporate buildings. Making sure that a large building with many rooms or offices is efficiently heated and cooled is a very large job and is much more complicated than simply heating or cooling a home. This blog will educate the reader on how heating and cooling jobs this large are designed and completed.

What To Do When Your Residential Boiler Is Not Working Correctly

Nicole Jacobs

Residential boilers are used in homes to make hot water for heating the house, and many also produce domestic hot water. The advantages of a residential boiler often outweigh other systems, but when the boiler stops running, you will need a boiler repair service to fix the system, or you will not have heat or hot water in your home.

Heating Systems

Residential boiler systems are effective at heating your home and are pretty efficient. Most run on heating oil, and when something goes wrong with the system, a boiler repair service can often fix it quickly because the system is not overly complicated.

Water is heated by the boiler when it circulates through a heat exchanger inside the boiler's firebox. When the boiler is running correctly, it heats the water and circulates it through baseboard radiators in your home, and the heat radiates outward to heat the home's interior.

Modern boiler systems can heat the home using zones and several different water loops running through parts of the house. Each loop has its own circulator pump and thermostat, allowing the homeowner to set the heat to varying levels throughout the home. Often zones are used for additional heat on the lower floors and to reduce the output on the upper floors where the heat naturally rises.

Boiler Service

If your boiler stops running, many things can cause the failure, and you may need a boiler repair service to diagnose and repair the system. The first thing you should check if the boiler stops are the fuel level. While it may seem strange, it is a common cause of boiler shutdown, and if the tank is full, then the repair service can rule that out when you call them.

In some cases, the fuel filter on the tank may develop a blockage and stop the fuel from getting to the boiler, but the repair service can check that when they arrive. Other common boiler repair issues involve the electronic controller on the system, a faulty or worn-out mixing nozzle in the firebox, and pressure leaks that cause the emergency sensors on the boiler to shut it off.

Each of these things is easy to check, and the boiler repair service will often be able to diagnose the issues very quickly once they start inspecting the boiler system. While the boiler may seem complicated, it is actually a simple heating system that is easy to maintain.

An inspection and tune-up at the start of the heating season is an excellent idea. Having the residential boiler repair service clean the system a few times throughout the year can eliminate many problems before they occur.
